Planning ahead
Getting started on making plans for life’s final event can be difficult, but taking care of arrangements in advance can provide peace of mind – and save money.
When arrangements are pre-paid at Topeka Cemetery, there is no further expense at the time of need. The Cemetery has contracts with customers dating to the 1970s, and when those families are ready to use them, there will be no additional costs on anything purchased in advance.
This isn’t the case with all pre-paid funeral and burial arrangements, so be sure to ask any provider what costs may be incurred at need.
Here are items that can be pre-paid at Topeka Cemetery:
- Burial spaces
- Niches in the columbarium
- Green Burial
- Vaults (outer containers are required for all burials, including ashes)
- Opening and closing of the grave
- Final inscription on headstone
Funds paid in advance for services and merchandise are placed in a trust that is monitored by the Kansas Secretary of State’s Office. Quarterly reports are required listing new contracts and stating which contracts have come due.
Headstones also may be purchased in advance. They will be ordered upon payment. They can be placed at the gravesite or put in storage at the cemetery.
Stop by any time to discuss pre-planning. If you need an appointment outside of office hours, please call (785) 233-4132 to make arrangements.
